It can be a bit of a minefield working out how much your product photography will cost you. I've had clients ask "why does it cost soo much?" or "it's a lot harder than it seems when you try it on your phone..."
Here are a few thing to think about when looking at product photography or still life pack shots.
1- A photographer will light products differently depending on the subject. Something with a shiny surface will be more of a challenge than something with a matte surface.
2- Most studios will have a minimum quantity or charge a setup fee for the shoot. This is because there is a lot of work at the front end to build a suitable setup and this can be difficult to square if there are only one or two products to photograph. So be careful if you're budgeting per product...
3- Some will reduce their fee, a certain amount, per product as the numbers of products increase however this can be a grey area as this will usually be for products of identical shape and size and it's difficult for the photographer to gage without seeing the product first... so make sure you communicate and negotiate with your photographer.
4- In my experience it is worth adding in additional product shots to the bank that you create. This may seem like over kill but the benefit of producing more content is huge, remember second shot does not usually mean double the price...
